E-Books on Interactive Whiteboards
E-Books can be shared by the whole class if they are projected on to the
interactive whiteboard (IWB). There are many internet sites that offer free e-Books
for projecting and using in the classroom. The following links provide just a sample
of the online big books available. Using your IWB tools you can interact with the
texts and graphics.
Mighty Book www.mightybook.com/story_books.html
This site has books, music, cartoons, games and jokes. It is a subscription site but
the rate is very reasonable for access to more than 500 stories, songs, puzzles
and games, presented in a safe secure environment. There’s no email, no chat, no
social networking, no outbound links and no advertising. Before you subscribe it is
possible to sample the 50 free books, songs, games and puzzles. The illustration
opposite comes from an animated telling of the well-known poem by A A Milne.

Storybear has three stories supported with or without sound. There are also lots of
other activities within the site.

Here are stories for all ages. These are especially good for learning English. There
are short stories for younger children and longer ones with dictionary and speech
support. Printable activities to accompany the stories are available.

Not all of these are speech supported, but you could link to specific ones. You will
need to pick the most suitable as these books cover the 0-11 age range

KS1 science when considering Life Processes and Living Things.
